LGBTQ Equity in HIV Prevention and Treatment Certificate for Social Workers
The LGBTQ Health Equity Series is a comprehensive eight-module certificate program designed to strengthen healthcare professionals’ knowledge, skills, and practices in providing affirming, equitable, and culturally responsive HIV prevention and care to LGBTQ individuals. Across the series, participants will explore the social, structural, behavioral, and clinical factors shaping HIV disparities among LGBTQ populations, and gain practical strategies for delivering patient-centered care across diverse communities and care settings.
Social workers who complete all eight modules will receive 5.25 continuing education credits through the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of all eight modules, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the social, structural, and behavioral factors contributing to HIV disparities among LGBTQ populations.
- Apply affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive communication strategies when caring for LGBTQ individuals.
- Identify tailored approaches to HIV prevention and care across diverse LGBTQ communities, including Black and Latino MSM, transgender and gender diverse persons, older adults, and youth.
- Recognize behavioral health needs and their influence on HIV prevention and care engagement.
- Implement practical strategies to improve linkage, retention, and equitable access to HIV prevention and treatment services.
Series Modules
This certificate program consists of the following eight modules, all of which must be completed to receive social work continuing education credit:

- Advancing LGBTQ HIV Health Equity in the Long-Acting Injectable Era

Accreditation, Credit, and Support
In support of improving patient care, HealthHIV is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Credits/Contact Hours
Social workers who complete all eight modules will receive 5.25 continuing education credits for completion of this certificate program.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, HealthHIV is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. HealthHIV maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers who complete all eight modules in this certificate program receive 5.25 continuing education credits.

To receive social work continuing education credit, learners must complete all eight modules in the LGBTQ Health Equity Series, complete the post-test and activity evaluation form for each module, and achieve a passing score of 80% or higher on each post-test. Your certificate of credit will be generated upon completion of all requirements and will be available on eHealthHIV.org.
