Expanding Access: Models for Opt-Out Testing in Emergency Departments

Expanding Access: Models for Opt-Out Testing in Emergency Departments

Emergency departments are uniquely positioned to expand access to HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis testing. HealthHIV’s “Touch Points” quality improvement initiative has demonstrated that there is interest and capacity among diverse emergency departments (EDs) nationwide to expand HIV testing, and that individualized technical assistance paired with funding mechanisms can facilitate implementation of opt-out testing in EDs.

This webinar will share interim data and lessons learned from the “Touch Points” opt-out testing and linkage to care initiative, and explore benefits and limitations of different models for opt-out HIV testing implementation. Emergency Medicine Physician and Director of Population Health & Health Services, Michael Lyons MD, MPH, will review key considerations for workflow integration, staff engagement, and sustainability. Attendees will leave with real-world insights and actionable strategies to adapt and strengthen opt-out HIV testing efforts in their own emergency medicine settings.
