Prepped to Serve: Implementing PrEP in Community Pharmacies
Expanding the HIV prevention workforce is more important than ever: disparities in PrEP uptake and need persist; biomedical prevention is advancing rapidly; the HIV workforce is shrinking; and PrEP demand remains high. With the right knowledge and tools, pharmacists, pharmacy staff, and technicians can play an important role in meeting patient demand for HIV prevention services.
Join HealthHIV with RxEACH on World AIDS Day for “Prepped to Serve: A Toolkit to Implement PrEP in Community Pharmacies”. Presenters will overview available medical education and a hands-on resource designed to help pharmacists, pharmacy staff, health-serving organizations, and community leaders support the sustainable delivery of HIV prevention services, including PrEP, PEP, and HIV screening, in community pharmacies.
This year, HealthHIV’s HIV Prevention Certified Provider™ Certification Program offers a new Pharmacy-Based HIV Prevention and PrEP module to empower pharmacy-based providers to implement HIV prevention strategies. Pharmacists can earn the HIVPCP℞ certification, which demonstrates knowledge and skills to prescribe, dispense, and administer PrEP, conduct effective eligibility screenings, provide counseling, and apply real-world strategies, aligning with state-specific guidelines to expand access to HIV prevention services. RxEACH’s complimentary hand-on resource is built for real-world implementation by offering clear, actionable strategies for pharmacists to help close persistent gaps in access in communities most affected by HIV.
Educational Objectives:
- Discuss why pharmacy-based HIV prevention services matter for communities
- Review available medical education and resources for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to deliver HIV prevention services in community pharmacies
- Identify practical takeaways and quick actions you can use right away in your community pharmacy

RxEACH’s “Prepped to Serve: The Community Pharmacy’s HIV Prevention Toolkit” was released in September 2025 and includes:
- Practical strategies for starting and improving services
- Easy-to-use checklists
- Real-world tools to support implementation and improvement
- Guidance for building partnerships and patient-centered, stigma free environments
The Toolkit reflects months of input from pharmacy and other clinical professionals, community health leaders, and PrEP users across the RxEACH network. It was shaped through feedback from experts and those with lived experience and a formal review by community and pharmacy leaders.
