LoveHER: Exploring Intimacy, Confidence & Connections
LoveHER, a live, virtual event, with Howard University’s Empower Peer Educators, was designed to advance sexual health awareness, promote body positivity, and address the unique experiences of Black women in contemporary cultural contexts. The 90-minute session engaged participants in evidence-informed discussions and interactive activities, fostering both knowledge acquisition and personal empowerment.
The event aimed to:
- Enhance participants’ understanding of sexual health and intimacy within culturally specific contexts.
- Promote positive self-image and resilience by addressing societal beauty standards.
- Equip participants with practical self-advocacy skills applicable in personal, academic, and healthcare settings.
- Strengthen peer support networks among participants, fostering a sense of community and shared learning.
Activities:
- Interactive Discussions: Facilitators led structured conversations that encouraged critical reflection on societal pressures, cultural norms, and self-expression.
- Skill-Building Exercises: Attendees engaged in activities designed to increase confidence, self-esteem, and self-advocacy.
- Peer-Led Engagement: Empower Peer Educators provided authentic guidance and mentorship, facilitating a supportive and affirming virtual environment.
- Incentivized Participation: A raffle was conducted to enhance engagement and recognize participant involvement.
