TEACH Specialty Training

TEACH training is designed to enhance the Maryland Community Health Workers’ understanding of HIV, STIs, viral hepatitis, and drug user health in an effort to combat and reverse the increasing rates of new HIV infections, STI cases, viral hepatitis, and to promote the health and well-being of individuals in an evidence-based, compassionate, and culturally-appropriate manner.

The TEACH training curriculum provides a multi-modal learner experience toward the achievement of competencies in the four (4) topic areas and the Maryland Department of Health’s nine (9) core CHW competencies. TEACH provides a comprehensive, skills-building that will:

  • Promote cultural responsiveness and structural competence
  • Ensure information provided about populations in the status-neutral HIV/viral hepatitis/STI care cascades are addressed
  • Account for diversity in language and English proficiency, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, ethnicity, class, country of origin, and age
  • Be available publicly and free of charge to organizations in Maryland

This training is a blended learning program consisting of six (6) online learning modules and a two (2) day intensive in-person training. To attend this training, participants should have completed the online sections of the TEACH curriculum. To complete the course and begin training staff, you must complete all modules of the course.

This training qualifies towards the 20 hours of professional development required for CHW certificate renewal.
