This position will be responsible for the content development of health-related online courses, specifically on HIV prevention, care and related topics. They will serve as the primary writer for online courses, video products, animations, and practice aids using adult learning principles and eLearning best practices. This position supports a multi-year education and eLearning training program to produce eLearning courses, blended learning, video interventions, and supplemental materials or practice aids. They will support the writing and editing needs of courses, video scripts, and supplemental materials within this program.
The eLearning Writer works closely with the Director of Medical Education, the Director of Training, and the eLearning team, in reviewing knowledge/practice gaps of the target audience, developing learning objectives, assisting with defining measurable and actionable metrics, and developing the written content from conception to completion according to best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory. The eLearning Writer will have demonstrated writing and editing skills, adhere to timelines, and be able to manage multiple writing/editing deliverables in various stages of development. The eLearning Writer will collaborate with the Senior eLearning Specialist, instructional designers, subject matter experts, and a community advisory board to produce clear, concise eLearning products that meet the educational needs of the HIV prevention public health workforce.
Requirements:
BA or BS in Public Health, English or a related field with work experience developing educational courses in HIV prevention. Masters preferred. Minimum of five years related work experience combined with the ability to demonstrate the necessary skills and abilities for this position. The candidate must present two recent writing samples that illustrate his/her ability to meet the job requirements, such as eLearning courses, live training, video scripts, training manuals, or other educational materials (in HIV prevention and care topics). Experience developing competency-based curricula and continuing education programs using adult learning theory, is strongly desired. Strong preference for healthcare or medical writing experience. The successful candidate will have experience creating online learning content, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Applicants should possess strong cultural and linguistic competencies.
The applicant must have knowledge and skills to develop education and training resources in the areas of: HIV service competencies; HIV testing; HIV prevention (including PrEP); sexual health; structural public health interventions; and/or emerging trends in HIV prevention, care, and treatment.
This full-time position is based out of HealthHIV’s Washington, DC office. Remote work from outside of the DC area may be considered.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Excellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
- Robust ability to develop competency-based (skills and knowledge attainment) educational resources and eLearning courses.
- Knowledge of, and ability to adhere to, varying style guides (i.e. APA, GPO, MLA).
- Collaboratively write/edit eLearning content with a team including subject matter experts, instructional designers, and advisors.
- Collaborate with a team to ensure written content is appropriate to the target audience, uses plain language, is culturally competent/ sensitive, and adheres to 508 compliance.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team with diverse staff.
- Prioritizes tasks efficiently and meets project timelines in an intense, fast-paced environment. Balances multiple responsibilities and functions well under pressure.
- Highly skilled in computer use, especially in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite applications, such as Word and PowerPoint. Experience with eLearning design software, such as Lectora, Articulate, Adobe Captivate, etc., is recommended.
Key Functions:
- Provide leadership for the development of written educational content.
- Develop measurable competency-based (skills and knowledge attainment) eLearning course outlines.
- Draft eLearning course storyboards that include onscreen content, narrative content, and applying design treatments developed in collaboration with instructional designers.
- Review editorial content of eLearning projects for accuracy and relevance.
- Provide timely, consistent and constructive feedback to ensure appropriate syntax, style, and content flow for different product types and target audiences, amending or re-writing content, as needed.
- Write and/or edit scripts for video products.
- Direct content development through appropriate review and workflow processes ensuring on-time delivery and content quality.
- Use principles of adult learning to improve instruction.
- Develop written reports and other materials to document delivery of quality services.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Limited travel required.
Benefits:
- Salary range: $75,000- $85,000 commensurate with experience (non-exempt)
