While there is a decreasing HIV care workforce and the need for HIV prevention continues to increase, education and training of an expanded PrEP workforce is more important than ever. The HealthHIV HIV PrEP Navigation Certification (HIVPNC) Program is the only certification program offered to providers and allied health professionals to prepare them to guide community members in their use of PrEP over time. HIVPNC promotes interprofessional collaboration and teamwork by engaging clinical and non-clinical providers to share their experiences in PrEP navigation services.
By participating in this free, one-of-a-kind program, experienced providers will:
- Demonstrate their commitment to delivering patient-centered PrEP care
- Develop skills to assist patients in identifying appropriate PrEP, gain access to PrEP medications, remain adherent to PrEP, and navigate life changes that require changes in their PrEP care.
- Receive a certification in HIV PrEP navigation
- Earn up to 4.0 credit hours (CME, MOC, AAPA, NCPD, CPE, CE, CHES)
- Stay connected to the dynamic HIV prevention landscape so that your patients can benefit from new innovations!
Upon successful completion of all modules in this program, participants earn their HIV PrEP Navigation Certification (HIVPNC) and receive a listing in the national online directory of HIVPNCs.

What’s New in 2024?
The update and recertification of the HealthHIV HIV PrEP Navigation Certification (HIVPNC) Program was released on December 2, 2024. There are a few key updates to be aware of:
- All modules are updated with state-of-the-science clinical data and best practices.
- All modules now are certified for social workers (CE) and health education specialists (CHES).
- Recurring case studies reflect client interactions in the field.
- The course has added content on motivational interviewing skills, healthcare policies, harm reduction, and sample assessment tools.
- Tips from the field provide added dimension to PrEP navigation services.
- The navigation notebook feature allows learners to apply and expand their work experience.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for PrEP navigators (allied health professionals including disease intervention specialists, case managers, social workers, and health educators) as well as other clinicians involved in guiding people to use PrEP – e.g., physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients at risk for acquiring HIV.
